In 2006 Matthew Payne wrote The Lab, a production where actor and audience went inside a semi-trailer to view the show. A one-act featuring six quirky characters (all played by Payne), the show was well received by audience and critics, winning awards at the Victoria Fringe Festival for Best Solo Show and Most Innovative Show.
Now, as part of our 20th birthday season, we’re revisiting four past SKAM productions. Our trusty 2014 summer interns Chase Hiebert and Colette Habel have been charged with remixing The Lab. Their challenges:
- They must produce the work for a traditional theatre space
- They must use six actors (not one)
- And just like in the early days of SKAM, they have almost no money to do so
Necessity is the mother of invention — right, guys?
