These classes help build confidence, expression and collaborative skills. Young drama students will enjoy this combined creative drama and beginning level acting class. The teacher, incorporating movement, voice, improvisation, cooperative dramatic development, and stage awareness exercises will help build students understanding of theatre and of their own expression and skills. The emphasis of the class is on skill development and dramatic play, but a part of the session will focus on rehearsing a simple performance piece reflecting some of their work. This will be performed at the end of the session for a small in-studio audience. Attendance and punctuality are important for continuity. Students are encouraged to join for more than one term as the class will work together to create a different presentation at the end of each session.

Young aspiring filmmakers and actors, will have the opportunity to learn the basics of on camera acting work and how to shoot a small film sequence together. Students will learn about both sides of the camera and what it takes to act in and shoot a scene, mini commercial or audition monologue. Each student’s area of interest in film and tv will also be considered so that the course can offer a number of ways for each student to engage with the material.  The training will help develop confidence and communication skills and allows students to explore their potential in a safe and encouraging atmosphere. Attendance is very important for continuity and for preparation by all.

At the end of the term, there will be a sharing of their camera work for a small in-studio audience of parents and family members.

This next level class provides an opportunity for students who are keen and ready for an in-depth immersion and creation of a short play of their own invention. Through improvisation, writing and collaborative discussion led by the instructor, the play will be built, rehearsed and performed at the end of the session. The instructor will work to meet each student’s level of ability in all of these areas from reading, writing, creating and performing. An added component for those students who are interested in costumes or sound, and props construction; will be an opportunity to create some of the production elements.

Also if a child is shy and does not want as large a part on stage as some others; they can be helping out backstage or be an influence in the creation of sound effects or playing the music. Entrance into this class requires a readiness and maturity on the part of the student for this kind of focus, discipline and collective group effort. Part of the creative process is to be able to listen to others ideas and to sit quietly at times to write or discuss things. Attendance is extremely important for the class and the student to be successful in their efforts.

The classes will culminate in a sharing of student’s work before an in-studio audience plus performance in the June Showcase.
